Chelmsford is well known as 'The Birthplace of Radio' & many of us are familiar with the pioneering spirit of Guglielmo Marconi & the work carried out at his purpose built wireless factory in New Street, Chelmsford. What is sometimes less well known is the earlier period of Marconi's endeavours & the location of his first wireless & telegraphy factory in Hall Street, established in 1898.
Now - for a short period of time only - there is the opportunity to visit this historic building & see where it all started, thanks to the sterling work of the Chelmsford Civic Society & the Marconi Heritage Group in collaboration with BBC Essex. A unique & informative exhibition has been set up within the Hall Street building with access available every weekend until the 29th May 2016.
In addition to the exhibition, a variety of Marconi & radio related talks are taking place over this period.
We highly recommend a visit to experience this historic building from where Guglielmo Marconi & his team created the world's first wireless factory. Their work went on to influence & dramatically change the world of communications, and it all happened from right here - in Chelmsford !
